If you live in a community with a homeowners association, this is a fair question to ask before scheduling exterior work, though the honest answer for most rescreening jobs is more reassuring than people expect.
For a straightforward rescreen or repairing damaged screens on an existing enclosure, most HOAs don’t require formal approval. You’re restoring what’s already there, not changing it. Where HOA approval more commonly comes into play is when you’re building a new enclosure or extending your existing outdoor living space, since that changes the footprint or appearance of your property in a way your association is more likely to have a say in.
That said, HOA rules vary a lot from community to community, and “most don’t require it” isn’t the same as “yours definitely doesn’t.” Some associations do want notice or documentation even for like-for-like repairs, just to keep a record on file.
Our advice: always check with your HOA first, even for a simple rescreen. It’s a quick phone call or email, and it’s a lot easier to confirm upfront than to deal with a flagged project after the fact.
